Mending Mental Scars with Silver Metal Clay

Is there something on your mind that has you a bit stuck? Maybe the memory of a past trauma or the loss of someone close, like a parent, spouse or beloved pet. You might feel frustrated or helpless when these old thoughts get in the way of moving on, like a scar that just won’t totally heal. Sometimes, an artistic process, where you create a representation of the loss or trauma, can help.

Metal clay is a medium that works well for this purpose. You can create a symbol of what you are feeling, in the form of a piece of silver jewelry, that you can either wear, keep safe in a drawer, or give to someone significant. The process is meant to metaphorically move some or all of that hurt from inside your mind or body, into a tangible form that you decide what to do with.

If this is something that you think might be for you or someone you know, Metalsmith Kenna McCall, a former Social Worker and Certified Psychotherapist, is offering this special workshop at the CP Gallery.

For more information, contact Kenna at 613-292-8853.

The cost includes materials and equipment. It is a full day workshop and the numbers are kept small to provide confidentiality, personal instruction and support. There will be breaks, however, it is better to bring a lunch, drinks and snacks, in case extra time is needed.

Kenna McCall is a jewelry designer with TerrAdore Art Jewellery in Merrickville.

She is a former Clinical Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist.
She has extensive training and experience working with trauma and mental health.
